Overnight at the Houston Museum of Natural Science

The Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) is thrilled to again invite Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council to visit OVERNIGHT at their museum. HMNS staff Allison Seeman, Curator of Education Collections and Overnight Coordinator, creates exciting overnight themes where girls learn and have fun! Further information is available on the monthly CIN (Council Information Network) and in articles in issues of The Golden Link.

Where: Houston Museum of Natural Science, One Hermann Circle Drive, Houston, Texas 77030. located near Hermann Park across from the Miller Outdoor Theater. For directions, click on Museum Info at www.hmns.org. Complimentary parking for participants in the Museum’s parking garage.
When: 7 p.m. on Friday - 9 a.m. on Saturday
Min./Max.: Group/troops must register a MINIMUM of five girls. Chaperones: First five campers have two adult chaperones (at least one female) to meet the GSUSA Safety-wise requirements and the HMNS requirements. Please keep adult numbers low to allow more girls this exciting, new experience. If group has 5-12 girls: two chaperones only (at least one female). Groups over 12, one adult chaperone required for each six girls.
If you have a small troop, consider combining with another small troop to meet the registration requirements!
Cost: $40 per camper (girl), absolutely no tagalongs; $20 per required adult chaperones (2 adults/5-10 girls; 3/15, 4/20, etc.) Event fee includes: program activities, evening snack, breakfast, and visits on Saturday to the Planetarium show admission to the permanent exhibit halls. HMNS Overnight Patches are included for all girls. Additional patches are available for $3 each. You can pay for patches at the event.

First Overnight - September 23 and 24

 

What: From chemical reactions to geology, and optical illusions to starfields, campers can discover science all around them at the HMNS Discover your World Overnight. After a fun filled evening of activities, all troops gather in the Burke Baker Planetarium for a dome theater presentation before settling down to sleep among the exhibits. Campers (girls only) will receive a HMNS Overnight patch as well as work toward earning the GSUSA Science Discovery Junior Girl Scout Badge while participating in activities.
Who: Junior Girl Scout troops and chaperones
When: Friday, September 23 at 7 p.m.-Saturday, September 24 ending at 9 a.m.
Bring: GSSJC form F-204 - GSSJC permission slip
GSSJC form F-185 - GSSJC medical form
*Signed HMNS release and consent forms for each Overnight participant
Troop first aid kit, personal toiletries, overnight gear (sleeping bag and pillow)
*Note: A complete list of Overnight “Do’s and Don’ts,” Frequently Asked Questions and the HMNS release and consent form accompany the information packet sent via e-mail to each group leader prior to the overnight date.
