More opportunities
for service
Girl Scouting for Food
Girl
Scouting for Food offers two great opportunities to the girls:
education and service. Girls will learn how important nutrition
is in the fight against hunger, see how the Houston Food Bank
processes 30 million pounds of food yearly, and participate
in a volunteer service activity.

Link your girls to the land on
National Public Lands Day! Participate in the Girl Scout program,
Linking Girls to the Land. Earn the Get with the Land Patch
(www.epa.gov/linkinggirls).
Have fun and provide “Helping
Hands for America’s Lands.” Girl Scouts of all ages
can: install bird boxes, paint picnic tables, weed plant nurseries,
plant flowers, repair stream banks, collect rubbish, collect
native seeds, remove invasive species, and renew trails.
This is the 12th year for National
Public Lands Day (NPLD) –the largest volunteer event that
benefits America’s public lands. This is the second year
that NPLD is linking formally with Girl Scouts, though many
troops across the country volunteer each year.
|
Whether the girls
work for two hours, or all day long, they learn to be good stewards
of the environment, experience the pleasure of serving the community,
have fun outdoors, and earn the Get with the Land Patch –
all at the same time!
Register your troop or group event
by September 16 and you will receive the 2005 NPLD poster, a
collector’s item. You will also receive brochures to promote
your event and inform parents, as well as certificates to use
at a recognition ceremony. You and your Girl Scouts also can
participate in the NPLD Photo Contest. When
you register your project, your details will make the Web site
listing of all of the Girl Scout NPLD projects more interesting.
Check out www.npld.com to see what other troops and groups are
doing!
