Rx for Survival – A Global Health Challenge

HoustonPBS and GSSJC, Global Thinking…Local Action

Girl Scouting is part of an exciting international movement, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, so it’s a wonderful opportunity and responsibility for girls to learn about their sisters around the world.

HoustonPBS (KUHT, Channel 8) invites the GSSJC family to learn more about the world around us through the Rx for Child Survival education campaign. Rx for Child Survival is an enhancement for troop leaders and parents to learn with their girls about what it’s like to live in another country.

In early November, HoustonPBS/Channel 8 will showcase a series called “Rx for Survival – A Global Health Challenge.” The series will focus on key milestones in public health history, such as the eradication of smallpox, as well as modern and future challenges, including, SARS, a potential global flu pandemic, and recovery from the Asian tsunami catastrophe. In addition to the series, HoustonPBS is launching a campaign to increase awareness of local efforts striving to make a difference in global health. See www.houstonpbs.org/rxforsurvival for more information . Girl Scouts on all levels have the opportunity to earn a Rx for Survival participation patch by following the directions below.
