Making Memories
Spending your time with someone is another
way to
create memories that will last a lifetime.
- Brainstorm with your troop on a list of gifts of time
you can give that do not cost any or a very small amount
of money. To prepare for the brainstorming, list three ways
to enhance each of these gifts:
- Visit a sick friend. Leave something for her/him
to do when you are gone.
- Babysit a sibling or younger child. Take the American
Red Cross babysitting course.
- Visit a nursing home and play a game with an elderly
person. www.nursing-homes.biz/
- Read a story to someone.
- Identify ten jobs around the house, at school, at your
faith community or anyplace you would like to help. Create
a coupon for each job you identify.
- Plan a presentation of a coupon to a parent, teacher
or friend to redeem whenever they need your help, schedules
permitting and with parents’ approval.
Write on!
Writing is a skill we all need to refine.
A wonderful gift is writing a note expressing your feelings.
- Research the history of writing.
- Research the history of paper and papermaking.
- Visit a local card shop or card area in a store near
you. Contrast and compare the different notes and cards
available. Using construction paper, colored pencils, markers,
paint or other art supplies, design your own note paper
or gift card.
- There are many special occasions to write a creative
note, card or e-mail. You can write to thank, congratulate
or encourage. Write something special for someone who has:
- Done something kind for you
- Experienced a milestone such as a birthday, wedding
or anniversary.
- Faced a disappointing situation.
- Make a card for someone in the military. Discover through
talking to military personnel, reading the newspaper, or
exploring the internet where local residents in the armed
forces are stationed. Discuss who would like to receive
a card or note in the mail.

other than your own and for each language learn how to say
and write:
- Thank you
- Good luck
- Love
- Sincerely
- Best regards
- In your own language or another, identify and write one
quote that expresses:

else feel special.
- Define giving:

person’s quality of life. Define quality of life.
- Look around your city. Discover a need you and your troop
would like to meet. Ideas include:

hospital.
