Quarter Notes Chorus

Girl singingThank you for your interest in “Quarter Notes,” the new GSSJC chorus for Junior Girl Scouts! The idea behind “Quarter Notes” is to have a large group of girls learning traditional, fun, camping and international songs sung by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. When you’re ready, you’ll be send out smaller groups of girls to events and community activities…while having a lot of fun along the way!

“Quarter Notes” is sponsored by “Take Note” GSSJC Choir and will be overseen by the directors and members of “Take Note.” “Take Note” is for girls in 7-12th grades in the fall and members must go through an audition process. Girls in 6th grade audition for “Take Note” in January. See you at the first rehearsal!

Who: 4th-6th grade GSSJC Girl Scouts

Where: Memorial Church of Christ, 900 Echo Lane, Houston

When: October 16, 2-4 p.m.; first of quarterly practices

Cost: $10 annual program fee, (i.e. music, learning CD, mailing and the chorus T-shirt)

Register: Use Program Registration Form. Pay at rehearsal. Please e-mail girl’s name, address, phone number, e-mail address (if possible) and T-shirt size.

Deadline: October 11 for October rehearsal

Note:  No auditions. You must plan to attend all “quarterly” rehearsals, learn your music and have a Junior Girl Scout vest or sash.

Tour Minute Maid Park

Minute Maid Park has been home to the Houston Astros since the stadium’s completion in 2000. Located in downtown Houston at Union Station, Minute Maid Park has received many local, state and national awards for its design and engineering. Built to reflect Houston’s historical relationship with the railroads, it features a vintage, full size locomotive that runs along 800 feet of track on the left field wall.

Educational tours can include:

  • Time in the Learning Center playing interactive games and researching the history of Major League Baseball in the United States.
  • Tour the historic Union Station, broadcasting booths, press boxes or luxury suites.
  • On field tour and visit the Astros or visitors dugout box.
  • Research the history and try on team uniforms and playing equipment.
  • View how professionals manufacture balls and bats.

All tours listed are private to Girl Scout troops and their families. There must be at least one adult for every 10 girls.

The tour will involve walking a distance of one mile and may include stairs and ramps. Tours are wheelchair and stroller accessible. Girl Scouts must bring permission slip and medical form.

Who: All levels and their families, all participants must register.

Where: Union Station, 501 Crawford

When: October 15, November 19,
and December 17; 11 a.m., arrive by 10:40 a.m.

Cost: $3 per child, $7 per adult, $4 per seniors (65+)

Girl Scout Sing-along

Who: Daisy-Senior Girl Scouts, leaders and interested adults. No tagalongs

Where: Girl Scout Center, 3110 Southwest Freeway, Houston

When: October 30, 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Bring: Leader keeps completed for each girl: F-204, permission slips, F-185, medical forms, F-22, Adult Emergency form for all adults, First aid kit (leader acts as the first aider for troop during event), Snacks, drinks, water bottles, Cassette tape player/batteries (optional)

Min./Max.: 50/200

Cost: $4/person (includes patch for each participant and two songsheets per troop)
