Medical Bridges

Medical Bridges is proud to be in partnership with HoustonPBS, the GSSJC and Rotaracts during The Rx for Survival: A Global Health Challenge. Beginning in September, the Girl Scouts and other service organizations are invited to collect materials to create hygiene kits to be distributed to healthcare institutions treating under-served people all over the globe. Please see www.medicalbridges.org for more information.

“Medical Bridges, Inc. (“MBI”) is a Houston, Texas based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in 1997. Medical Bridges LogoThe mission of MBI is to procure donated medical materials and equipment for distribution to developing and poverty-stricken countries. MBI primarily functions as a clearinghouse, whereby unused and overstocked medical supplies are collected from medical institutions (hospitals, clinics, physician’s offices and other facilities) then repackaged and distributed to qualified providers of charitable medical care in impoverished hospitals and clinics worldwide.

Since Houston is home to the world’s largest medical center with more than 100 hospitals in the Greater Houston area, their goal is to steadily increase their procurement of usable medical and surgical goods, equipment and supplies, and to increase their distribution to impoverished countries world-wide.

To accomplish this goal, MBI relies on the generosity of area individuals, churches, and foundations to raise their required operating expenses to ensure that all of their supplies are given free of charge. Additionally, MBI is dependant on volunteers to prepare all of their donations for distribution.

MBI welcomes volunteers of all ages and welcome children under 10 with adult supervision. Call today to schedule your group!

Please see page 47 in the program section of this issue of The Golden Link for information about what to put in the hygiene kits and where to deliver them once assembled.
