Congratulations Gold Award recipients

These Senior Girl Scouts recently completed their Gold Award projects and by doing so, earned the Gold Award.

Photograph of Amanda A.Amanda A. held a family fun and awareness day for her neighborhood. About 300 people came to the event. The purpose of her event was to make the people more aware of health and safety resources available to them. She also wanted to let the neighborhood know about the neighborhood association.

Photograph of Emily B.Emily B. researched the history of the Hana and Arthur Ginzbarg Nature Discovery Center and its property. She interviewed several people and researched historical documents. Emily then wrote three articles and made a brochure, display, and album. She also collected crafts supplies for classes at the center.

Photograph of Jessica G.Jessica G. created a booklet in both English and French for French students coming to Texas through an exchange organization called ORCA. The booklet included information about major Texas cities, Texas history, schools, weather, shopping, and much more.

Photograph of Rebecca M.Rebecca M. remodeled the Children’s Education Center at St. Vincent de Paul Village, a shelter for families that were homeless or on the verge of being homeless. She organized the volunteers over three days who cleaned, reorganized, and painted a room. She also sewed and hung curtains that the children had stamped with their handprints.

Photograph of Kristen N.Kristen N. developed and taught a basic computer skills course for Spanish speaking individuals. The course included 10 classes. They were taught how to use Word and PowerPoint. BP donated 10 computers, 9 of which went to the participants and one went to a church where it would be available to more people.

Photograph of Calli P.Calli P. made summer survival kits for children at Herod Elementary’s Pre-K class. They included educational material, health care items, summer fun activities, and zoo and McDonalds’s gift cards. The materials donated by the community at a party she held where they also made tote bags for the children.

Photograph of Allison S.Allison S. decided after working on a Habitat for Humanity home, she didn’t want to leave it with white walls and no furniture. She designed, furnished, and decorated a room in a the house. The girl whose room she designed loves butterflies, so she made her room into a butterfly masterpiece using stencils and getting a butterfly bedspread.

Photograph of Diana W.Diana W. created a musical awareness summer camp. She and volunteers taught the participants how to play music and play their own instruments better. They then held three concerts. At one of the concerts she asked participants to bring nonperishable items that were donated to Clear Lake Food Pantry.

Photograph of Laura W.Laura W. worked with 30 residents of the Brookwood Community to led a chapel service. She worked with them on songs and presentations. Laura also led 130 residents that day in making crafts. She says, “I have learned how to step up and be a leader and to be a better public speaker.”

Photograph of Stefanie K.Photograph of Laura S.Stefanie K. and Laura S. worked together on their projects. They held dance classes every Saturday for two months. They taught girls a variety of dances including: Hawaiian, jazz, hip hop, and a ribbon dance. After all the practices the girls went to three nursing homes and performed for the residents. They then had a party where they performed for their parents and made picture frames. Pictures taken with residents at the nursing home were put in frames and delivered to the residents.
