A quick look at STUDIO 2B focus books

Studio 2 B LogoSo you’ve been hearing all about this STUDIO 2B “stuff” and you can’t quite figure it out. Try looking at it this way. STUDIO 2B is an updated way of approaching Girl Scouts for girls 11-17. Traditional values are still embraced and celebrated, but girls are given more options, flexibility and a “By Girls, For Girls” focus. More information on STUDIO 2B may be found at www.studio2b.org.

A STUDIO 2B Focus Book is an individual booklet that lists requirements for earning a STUDIO 2B charm, which is similar to an Interest Project. The Focus Book is in a magazine format and the topics covered are contemporary and involve goal setting. Completion of at least one STUDIO 2B Focus Book is part of the Silver and Gold Award processes.

Here is a quick look at the STUDIO 2B Focus Books. Look for more detailed information on each book in future issues of The Golden Link.

GSSJC offers scholarships to STUDIO 2B destinations!

Did you know that GSSJC will award a STUDIO 2B destinations scholarship to every San Jacinto Girl Scout who sells both fall product and cookies and is accepted to a destination? What a terrific opportunity for Girls 11-17 to spread their wings and travel to new cities or even new countries! 2006 trips include apprenticeships, getaways, outdoor adventures, people ventures and science-based events.

A STUDIO 2B destination is any experience, regardless of distance or length of time, which provides a girl 11-17 with an opportunity to expand her personal experience beyond her everyday scope. Events typically range in length from 2-10 days. A STUDIO 2B destination is your chance to go somewhere new, do something different and meet people from everywhere you can imagine! All trips are listed at www.studio2b.org/escape/destinations.

Applications for STUDIO 2B destinations are due to GSSJC November 15 by 5 p.m. Check the STUDIO 2B web site often to find new trip postings.

Go to an orientation meeting to hear from Girl Scouts who attended 2005 STUDIO 2B destinations and to learn about the application process. Meetings are at the Girl Scout Center: October 5, 6-8 p.m. and October 16, 3-4:30 p.m. Contact Julie Deeter, Program Manager, at 713-292-0203 or jdeeter@sjgs.org for more information. Orientation packets will be available by mail if you are unavailable to attend an orientation.
