Rx for Survival:
A Global Health Challenge Patch
- Have a leader or parent in your troop watch at least
1 of the 6 hour-long episodes in the Rx for Survival series.
(Airs on Houston PBS/Channel 8 November 1, 2, 3
- Collect toiletries and create personal hygiene kits for
healthcare facilities in developing countries. Information
on kits are in the box below.
- Complete an activity from the special tool kit for this
documentary, found on the WGBH Web site at wgbh.org/rxtoolkit
OR you may check out the materials in a resource kit available
from the Program Department.
- Complete a Rx for Survival Service Project Report Form
and mail into GSSJC
no later than January 1. This form will be available on
the GSSJC
Council Web site’s November Council Information Network
at www.gssjc.org.

If girls prefer not to earn the patch,
or it is no longer available, watching the show and completing
some of the projects may tie into current GSUSA
awards dealing with health, the world.

The “how-to’s” for the Hygiene
Kit
The hygiene kits will consist of:
- 1 wash cloth
- 1 bar of soap
- 1 toothbrush
- 1 tube of toothpaste
- Travel size samples of shampoo and conditioner
- 1 comb
Each kit needs to be packaged in a quart-size resealable
plastic bag.
Hygiene kits can be dropped off through November
30

no later than January 1, 2006. General service project statistics
will be forwarded to the Houston/PBS station. Patch available
for purchase in Girl Scout Shop.
