“Hello, Muddah. Hello, Faddah. Here I am, at Camp Grenada,” begins the Allan Sherman hit of the 60’s. The lyrics record a boy’s rainy, boring first-day-at-camp experience in a letter to his parents. He paints the scariest of pictures, so that his folks will rescue him and take him home.Of course, the rain stops, the fun begins and he doesn’t want to leave anymore. A camp stay is something that’s never boring for GSSJC girls and adults, even in the rain. The Council’s eight beautiful camps offer a variety a camping experiences like swimming, canoeing, archery, sailing, horseback riding, hiking, and ROPES. Fond memories of fun, new adventures, lasting friendships around the campfire, and growth in self-reliance and confidence are also snugly packaged into a Girl Scout camping experience. Listen carefully, next time you are at camp; perhaps you will hear the laughter of campers from bygone years mingled with the giggles of today. This month, San Jacinto Girl Scouts reflect on their ‘favorite’ camp, not an easy task for some.

I no longer have a troop, but when I did our favorite camp was Camp Misty Meadows. The girls loved the horseback riding, swimming and the grounds are great!

My favorite camp is Camp Robinwood, but without the race track!
Lori Galba, Troop #11025

Camp Robinwood is my favorite. The layout and the closeness of the units makes it fun to have events there. I always see wildlife there – no matter what time of year it is. Not to mention the wide variety of insects and snakes! Lake Ann is just the right size for canoeing or paddle boating. There are several trails to hike in the woods and around the lake, plus the chapel in the woods. The sunset while sitting in the amphitheater is beautiful!

My favorite camp is Camp Agnes Arnold. Our troop has stayed in both the tree houses and the fishing village. They are both awesome! Cindy Forsyth

Camp Agnes Arnold because that is the one I liked as a little girl.
Sarah Redmond

Our favorite GSSJC camp is Camp Misty Meadows because we love the barn, horses and the mist over the pastures in the early morning.

My favorite camp is Camp Robinwood. I first visited there in the spring of ’97 as a leader, getting ready to take my troop camping for the very first time. I had never been to Camp Robinwood before, so I decided to drive up on Sunday morning a couple of weeks before our troop camp-out. I remember the walk up the long path to Lake Ann and girls skipping along to the parking lot after a happy weekend at camp. And then came that familiar smell of campfire smoke, and it took me back to the days when I camped as a girl in Scotland and realized that the smell is the same the world over and knew it was the right place to take my girls.

My favorite camp is Camp Misty Meadows because it has horseback riding. The hill behind the lodge is one of the most inspiring images I have seen to this day, in the morning when the mist still lingers in between the trees. Camp Agnes Arnold is only a short hike away, and on that hike, you pass the legendary grave of Indian Joe.
Julia Prior, Senior Troop #11389

I like Camp Casa Mare because it provides the best opportunities for girls. The sailing and other water courses are the most fun at any camp. The staff teaches well and are very friendly. Delicious food and good dorms are provided. Plus, the ocean view and the breeze that comes with it are one of a kind!
Monica Taylor

I have camped at four of the Council facilities (Camps Agnes Arnold, Misty, Casa Mare and Silver Springs) and enjoyed them all! However, I believe Camp Casa Mare is my current favorite, as I truly love being near the water. Watching the waves, boats and sea birds is relaxing and entertaining. It’s exciting to try fire building with the constant wind and well worth the effort. My girls enjoy swimming, kite flying, bird watching with binoculars, scavenger hunts and star gazing. I also am glad to have fewer bugs, especially mosquitoes!
Wendy Robbins
Frogs Creek, Troop #5455

Camp Silver Springs, without a doubt! It is relatively small, never a long walk to any unit or activity. It has an almost new swimming pool, platform tents, cabins and a lake just the right size to try out canoeing. The pavilion is enormous for crafts, games, and escaping from rainy weather. Trails lead to an archery range and around the lake, as well as longer hikes to Camp Agnes Arnold. It has new showers, too!

My co-leader and I really enjoy Camp Robinwood. It is rustic enough, but with enough facilities that we don’t have to rough it entirely! We had a great time hiking and canoeing with the girls and would like to go back there.

My favorite camp is Camp Casa Mare. The view of the bay is beautiful, and I’ve never had a bad experience there. It’s fun to watch the sailboats and even more fun to sail there. It is very enjoyable and relaxing to sit on the swings on the porch. There always seems to be something to do, but there is still plenty of time to do homework and relax.
Catie Reid, Troop #5900

Camp Misty Meadows because we love Love, Hug and Groom.
Amy Page, Troop #5185

If I had to spend the day at camp it would be Camp Casa Mare. I really enjoy being on the back porch swinging and listening to the water, especially during the summer months.

Membership Manager, Area 6

Camps Agnes Arnold and Misty Meadows because of the horses. Of course, I particularly like Camp Agnes Arnold because of the tree houses and more up-to-date facilities. I have heard that the Fishing Village is a must to see, but sadly I have not had the pleasure.
