This course will enable program aides to assist instructors teaching the various Red Cross canoeing, sailing, and swimming courses, as well as helping where needed at an aquatic event with proper supervisory personnel. If you assist at a later date with a registered Red Cross course, you may also earn the Red Cross Instructor Aide certificate for that particular specialty.

You will also tour the sailing facilities and see the sailing program in action. Canoeing will be another venue looked at: canoeing progressions, how to make arrangements to canoe on and off Council property, requirements for adults and/or girls to actually canoe. How to get swim cards and GSSJC safe boating test certificates, who needs them and what each certificate is will be answered. Swim Stroke Workshops
Swim stroke workshops are to earn ARC Learn to Swim certification. Swimming ability is tested and a Red Cross swim card is issued at the end of the day based on skill, proficiency, and endurance of the participant. This is not a teaching course. Students will be tested on all skills up to and including the new level of certification. The GSSJC Safe Boating test is given only if the participants bring clean shoes and shirt and long pants for the test. Girls need Level III to canoe and Level IV to sail. Taking this workshop completes portions of the Junior Water Fun and Swimming badges and the Water Sports Interest Project Patch. The new modified criteria for the revamped Red Cross swimming levels will be used.
