Did you know: The word landlord goes back to the time of kings?

This and many other interesting topics were shared with girls by the CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Houston Chapter’s Outreach Committee, led by none other than our own GSSJC Emerald Circle member and grown up GSSJC Girl Scout Mary Tourenq. GSSJC girls explored the exciting career field of Commercial Real Estate. (See January Council Information Network on the Council Web site, www.gssjc.org). CREW was pleased to welcome GSSJC girls Barbara May, Brittany Rodriguez, Marie Ullrich, and other young adults from community groups.

CREW is a national, not for profit volunteer organization attracting women from a wide variety of professions who work in the building business. The CREW Network is a full service business development network consisting of 51 chapters with 6,000 members who are involved in all aspects of commercial real estate throughout the United States and Canada. CREW is a partner with Girl Scouts of the USA, having been a partner in the development of the STUDIO 2B book and charm – Mind Your Own Business.

The CREW ensemble included female bankers, commercial investment brokers, lenders, appraisers, environmental engineers, attorneys, developers, title companies, acquisitions, architects, general contractors, project managers, asset managers, portfolio managers, tenant representatives, litagators, property tax advisors, real estate accountants, and chief financial officers.

Each participant received a colorful, informative notebook about the many topics covered by the variety of women professionals.

Stay tuned for the next offering by this fabulous group of committed women professionals who want to share their exciting careers with girls.

Top 9 reasons why you don’t want/need a credit card

1.) You really, really don’t need what the credit card company is giving away.
2.) Credit card debt is very, very expensive and makes everything you buy more expensive.
3.) The average person spends 15% more when using a credit card compared to a check or cash, even if they pay off their card at the end of every month.
4.) Debt creates stress.
5.) The borrower is servant to the lender.
6.) Having a credit card seduces you into buying things you don’t need, i.e. it promotes bad spending habits.
7.) Using credit cards is like gambling – you are betting that you will have the income in the future to pay for what you buy now.
8.) An average credit card takes 25 years to pay using minimum payments.
9.) Debt is very easy to get into and very hard to get out of.
