NEW! Golden Nugget
Where common Gold Award beliefs are labeled myth or reality…

Belief 1: My Girl Scouts can’t work on their Gold Award until they attend Gold Award Orientation.

MYTH! You do not have to attend the Gold Award Orientation to begin work on the Gold Award Process. Girl Scouts must be age 14 or going into grade 9 to begin work on steps 1-3 of the Gold Award Process (interest projects, Studio 2B Focus books, leadership hours and career hours.) Gold Award Orientation may be taken at any time during steps 1-3. A Girl Scout should have attended Gold Award Orientation by the time she submits her initial Gold Award project application to GSSJC. If it has been more than 18 months since she attended Gold Award Orientation, she will need to attend a refresher course or complete a home study.

Belief 2: I must show my Gold Award Final Report and Hour Log to my Gold Award Advisor before submitting it to GSSJC for approval.

REALITY! Yes, you are required to go over your Gold Award Final Report and Hour Log with your Gold Award Advisor prior to submitting it to GSSJC. All initial applications, final reports and hour logs are due by the first of each month to ensure that they are reviewed at that month’s Gold Award Advisory Committee meeting.

Day and Twilight Camp information that was listed in April’s The Golden Link is also available on-line at www.gssjc.org in the Publications/Golden Link section.

Two corrections have been made to the copy. The correct address for Jackie Evans (Challenger Park Day Camp and Challenger Park Twilight Camp contact) is 11011 Sage River Drive, Houston, TX 77089. Also the girl price for Challenger Park Twilight Camp was incorrect. The correct price is $25.
