Junior Troop #8234 put together a Veteran’s Day event. The event took place at Splendora Elementary on November 11. Cub Scout pack # 1013 joined Troop #8234 in a skit explaining what Veteran’s Day is about. They took turns reading passages with descriptions about Veteran’s day, as others in the troop passed out flowers. They created a “wall” with names of known veterans. ROTC played TAPS, and their guest speakers included the Mayor Wayne Carley and veteran John Hudson.

The Council’s choir Take Note sang the National Anthem at the Sports Car Club of America races at the Texas World Speedway in College Station on November 20. The drivers let the girls all sit in a formula racer. The girls also got to ride around the track in regular cars. It was a fun, very different experience.

Troop #8234 helped needy families as part of a service project to go towards earning the Bronze Award. They are pictured shopping at Wal-mart for the gifts for the families and this was made possible by a $200 donation from Southwest Concrete Products and $35 from Wal-mart. Aquarius Services INC. provided hams and a $20 donation for the families.

Group Leader Monica Olvera, along with Samantha  who is crossing the bridge (from Daisies to Brownie) in their first ceremony of Group #22055.

Junior Troop #5134 and Brownie Troop #8200 of Splendora’s Topnocs Service Unit made homemade chocolate candy and handmade cards to send to an uncle of one of their troop members who is serving in the military in Iraq. He was thrilled and said that both containers were gone in a matter of 15 minutes and that all his unit thanked these thoughtful girls and appreciated the thoughts and prayers from girls. They sent him a picture of all the girls together with the WAGGGS flag and the USA flag to show their pride.
