Don’t miss out on 2005 Urban Campout

Urban Campout is quickly approaching. After a two-year hiatus, Urban Campout, an all-adult fundraiser, returns in full swing on April 14, (7-10 p.m.) at the Houston Texans Practice Bubble in Reliant Park.
Janice McNair will be the honoree of this event. She is a past troop leader and a strong advocate for girls. Deon Brown and Betsy Kamin will serve as honorary chairs. Barbara and Larry Catuzzi, Dorothy Goodykoontz, and Minerva Perez will be the honorary co-chairs of this event.
Urban Campout will have many exciting activities you can participate in, including mechanical bull-riding, model car racing, campfire sing-a-long and an opportunity to kick a football through the goalposts, among others. Food will be traditional camp fare, including s’mores.
Benefiting community outreach programs available throughout the Council, guests can purchase from a live auction or a variety of sign-up parties or have the opportunity to help fulfill community outreach program and camp needs.
Urban Campout was conceived in 1991 as an adult fundraiser, out of a need for yearly funding of the community outreach programs that benefit girls in Houston’s communities. Since Urban Campout’s inception, over 50,000 girls have been impacted by the more than $2 million raised through the event.

Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas was a Girl Scout in the San Jacinto Council. It was an experience that was always close to her heart and made her a courageous, confident and caring daughter, sister, wife, and friend. Lauren’s interest in the ideals of Girl Scouting and her enjoyment of earning badges through her accomplishments inspired her to begin the book, You Can Do It!, a book to help grown women acheive their dreams. Lauren was working on her book when she died on Flight 93 on September 11, 2001. Her family completed You Can Do It! and it will be published in May 2005. Lauren’s book was about helping ordinary women follow in the footsteps of their heroes and the book features 60 of these women. In the end, though, it was Lauren who was the hero. Urban Campout has chosen to honor Lauren and the women in her book by embracing the theme as the theme of Urban Campout 2005.
