Basic Aid Training
Juniors, this class is for you to learn basic safety skills. This Red Cross course teaches safety awareness, accident prevention, and elementary first aid skills. Some of the activities include fire safety, and fire escape plans for your home, learning rescue breathing, and wound care. Fun activities such as puzzles and mazes are used to learn about safety. Portions of the GSUSA Junior First Aid Badge and Safety Sense Badge are completed.
Who: Girls ages 9 and up
When: August 7, 8 a.m-5 p.m. or
August 8, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Cost: $16 includes book and lunch

When help is delayed

Who: Girls ages 11 and up and adults
Prerequisites: · Current within three years First Aid certificate
· Current within one year Adult CPR certificate

Wilderness First Aid Basics
This new course will teach you first aid skills and knowledge for settings in which emergency care is delayed for long periods, or self-evacuation is necessary. Identifying causes, prevention and care of injuries in wilderness areas through scenarios and simulated rescues that test knowledge and skills. It is a fantastic course with real life scenarios and information for the outdoor settings!
It is a Level II First Aid course for Girl Scout purposes. When Help is Delayed information is included in this program. It is recommended that you have a current CPR certificate prior to enrolling in this class.

CPR/AED For the Professional Rescuer
Take the CPR for the Professional Rescuer course, or just come renew your CPR:FPR card (remember it’s only good for one year). This card needs to be updated yearly so you can keep your Lifeguarding or other advanced first aid certificates valid.
This course teaches professional rescuers (those with a duty to act) the skills needed to respond appropriately to respiratory and cardiac emergencies on a daily basis (lifeguards, fire fighters, police, nurses, EMT’s or anyone else interested). It includes rescue breathing, choking and CPR for infants, children and adults, as well as two person CPR and alternate airway management. Included is early recognition of a heart attack and information on accident prevention. The new AED module will be offered.

ARC CPR for the Professional Rescuer or Arc Lifeguard Training

First Aid/CPR/AED and Babysitting Instructor
Service units, this is your chance to get someone in your unit trained to become an instructor and all in one weekend. You could even take the basic level course the day before.
This course trains instructor candidates as instructors to teach any of the First Aid courses Red Cross offers: Sports Safety Training; Community First Aid and Safety; First Aid Basics; Standard First Aid; Basic Aid Training; the CPR courses– for Infant, Child and Adult, as well as the new AED (Automated External Defibrillator) module as well as the Babysitting course. The babysitting course has been updated and is always in demand! The courses teach you how to teach the students by developing an understanding of use of the course materials, how to conduct training sessions, and the methods used to evaluate student progress, and how to prepare and submit records and reports. A written and practical skills test is a required prerequisite. It is highly suggested that you update your skills by attending a CPR/FA/AED class and/or reviewing the materials taught in the class.

Who: Girls 17 and up and adults
Prerequisites:  

· Current within one year, FUNdamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) (offered on Friday night) OR
current authorization in another Health and Safety field · Age 17 PRIOR to completion of course · Current within one year Adult, Child, Infant CPR certificate or equivalent skills · Current within three years First Aid Certificate or equivalent skills

Note: No ARC babysitting training certificate is required to take this course
When: July 30-July 31, 8 a.m. Saturday through 5 p.m. Sunday

Cost: $81 includes all instructor books/ materials and meals (basic level First Aid/ CPR books not provided)
Note: All prerequisites will be given at camp on the above day prior to this Instructor course-In three days you can get it all.

     All materials provided at class, except basic level books, which you should already have or should purchase in advance. (ARC First Aid/CPR/AED) program participants book plus ARC First Aid skill card and ARC CPR/AED skill card). If you desire to teach Community First Aid and Safety and/or Sports Safety Training bring those books also. The Babysitting materials, basic and instructor books, will be provided at camp.

There will be no charge for instructor training (FA/CPR/AED), with a commitment to teach at least six GSSJC sponsored Red Cross First Aid/CPR or babysitting classes within the next two years. Contact Kathy Elliott at

Fundamentals of Instructor Training
This course teaches individuals wanting to become a Red Cross Instructor in any Health and Safety Field. It teaches theories of learning, teaching tips, history and procedures of the Red Cross. All persons desiring to become any Red Cross instructor must take this prerequisite course.
