Urban Campout Returned!

Urban Campout 2005 was a success! More than $200,000 was raised for the community outreach programs within GSSJC.
From this amount, $44,000 was raised directly from the live auction, sign-up parties and camp wishes. Sign-Up Parties allowed guests to purchase reservations to themed dinners/lunches/events or activities. This was the first year Urban Campout used this method to raise funds and it proved to be successful!
Urban Campout brought out the kid in all the adult guests who attended. They jumped on the Velcro wall, had their fortune told, tried their luck on the slot machines, joined in a campfire sing-a-long, or just watched their friends have a good time. Several guests even kicked the football through the goal posts and ran through an actual football players’ obstacle course! After observing all the activity lines though, the most popular activity was the chance to ride a Segway…people would not leave their spot in line! It was amazing.
Guests enjoyed the fine camp cuisine of hot dogs with all the toppings you can imagine, chili, cheese, onions, relish, as well as hamburgers and salads. Afterwards – some people actually began with this first – guests topped their meals off with delectable floral desserts, yummy, gooey chocolate s’mores, and frozen fruit bars, Popsicles, and ice cream…all the fun treats you think of when camping.
Urban Campout truly was a fun event. Plus, thousands of girls from all over Houston and Beaumont will now get to experience the fun and friendship Girl Scouts brings.
Thank you to all the honorary chairs, corporate and individual sponsors, volunteers and staff members who made this event possible!
And a BIG thank you to the Girl Scout Choir (led by Beth Watkins), and older Girl Scouts who greeted more than 450 guests attending Urban Campout. They did a fantastic job welcoming and thanking guests for participating at this event.

Mary Vitek, Minerva Perez, Betsy Kamin, and Karen Capers prepare for the night’s festivities. Deon Brown and Dorothy Goodykoontz take a break from the fun. The Catuzzi family and Joanie Haley enjoy the evening.
The velcro wall was a big hit as well. Toro brought the love. Jaime Pierce, Portia Cook, and Valerie Weber are all smiles.

Please see page 81 for a list of donors from Daisy level and above. Thank you to everyone who supported Urban Campout!

Liz Gold and Fran Skiles from ImagePro donated much of the night’s signage. Face painting was just one of the many activities offered.
