Summer FUN

We like to think that we have year-round FUN in Girl Scouting, whether it is riding horses, selling cookies, or making tray favors for a nursing home. Because girls are our most important commodity, FUN should be our number one priority.
Summer FUN should be the best! There are no school responsibilities and even athletics don’t require the same amount of time and commitment. Girls have more time to have FUN!
Here at GSSJC we offer several structured programs, such as resident camp and day camp, which provide opportunities to learn new skills and make new friends. All of this information is on the Web site or in The Golden Link articles. Summer Carousel is another special summer activity particularly good for beginning campers. This program is held at Camp Robinwood, which should be of extra interest right now. This is the camp that we are asking troops to support with donations to the capital campaign. Many activities are in place and the swimming pool will be open. Troops supply their own meals.
Just think of the many ways troops can have FUN even in their own neighborhoods. What about family picnics, swimming lessons to have the prerequisite for sailing, spending cookie bonus money, starting scrapbooks, working on a special badge, doing a meaningful service project, or begin planning for the bronze or silver award as ways for troops to have FUN.
If your troop doesn’t have time to get together, try something on your own. Try to make one of your grandmother’s favorite recipes. Perhaps she could help you. Learn to knit or crochet, both very fashionable and popular right now. Study genealogy. Do you know why you have your name? Where did your family come from?
If all else fails read a good book.
Enjoy your summer. Learn something new. See your friends. Have summer FUN.

We want to know what you think!
