Join an annual service project that will be part of Girl Scout Day at Six Flags Astroworld.
The fall 2005 event will host community organizations that will benefit from your wise shopping and collecting of bears, blankets and backpacks. Start collecting NOW!
Girls may use this service project collection drive towards the community requirement for GSSJC Council Service Project Patch
(F-834). Watch for further information to learn more about where your donation is going and how these organizations serve your community.
Collection times for the bears, blankets, and backpacks will be from gate opening to 1 p.m. If you plan to arrive later OR if you are unable to attend, please feel free to drop your donations by the Girl Scout Office during the month of September (not this summer please).
More information will be in future issues of The Golden Link and in the event flyer mailed to all Girl Scout families this summer. Contact Melinda Gaskill at 713-292-0232 or mgaskill@sjgs.org with questions.

Junior Badge in a Box

The Program Department is now offering resource boxes to girls/troops wanting to complete certain badges. The following GSUSA Badge in a Boxes are available:

* Architecture * Girl Scouting in the USA * Theater * Jeweler * Science Sleuth * Drawing and Painting * Girl Scouting Around the World * Visual Arts

Each box lists complete directions for fulfilling each requirement as stated in the Junior Girl Scout Handbook. They contain books, charts, examples, and lesson plans to help your girls successfully earn the badge.
The boxes are located at the Houston Girl Scout Center at 3110 Southwest Freeway. You may come and pick them up and keep them for up to four weeks. Please remember that other girls may be waiting for the box. The rental fee is $5 per box and there is a $25 deposit. Your deposit will be fully refunded upon complete return of the box.
If you would like to check out a Junior Girl Scout Badge in a Box or have further questions, please contact Program Manager Sarah Boyd at 713-292-0269 or e-mail at sboyd@sjgs.org.
