June/July 2005 Volume 31 Issue 6
Dear Houston Marine Moms,
From the Marines of Mals-26, we send out thanks and appreciation for everything that you and your organization are doing for the service members that are forward deployed. The cookies that you have sent pretty much disappeared in about five minutes after I had opened the package, and the phone cards will be used here soon. If you could, would you please thank Starbucks, the Girl Scouts, and your local post office for everything that they have donated. All of these items have given us a much need relaxation time to just sit and joke around and enjoy some “us” time.
Sincerely
Cpl John M.

Thank you again for the four care packages. I have a unit of well over 500 Marines so they were very happy. I never saw such dirty smiling faces as I did when I opened the packages. They almost did not give me enough time to get out of the way before they attacked the boxes. It is amazing that these men and women can go from fighting insurgents and standing watch in towers to just having the biggest smiles on their faces when they see a box of cookies. Your generosity and kindness is inspiring to all of us and we can not thank you enough. You have made their lives so much better and so much happier even if only for a short amount of time.

Dear Houston Marine Moms,
On behalf of all the Marines of Maintenance Platoon, I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to you and your Girl Scout troops. It means very much to us to know that our fellow Americans support us in our efforts during this time of great turmoil.

Please let the troops know that we greatly appreciated the cookies, coffee, and phone cards. The cookies bring a special part of home to us all for the simple fact that they are something we all grew up with but are unable
to get here. The phone cards have allowed the Marines to contact loved ones
and let them know that they are safe. And the coffee is something many of us
start our day with and is also something that is in short supply around here.

Again, thank you for your donations.

Junior Girl Scout Troop #6353 and Brownie Troop #6063 from All Saints Episcopal School in Beaumont, Cadette Troop #1423 and Troop #2126 also sent cookies to troops. Troop #5202 sent their cookies with a note of encouragement to military personnel overseas. And Troop #5203, the top selling troop in Cypress Trails Service Unit, sold more than 17 cases of cookies to be donated to troops in Iraq.

There are undoubtedly many more stories of giving during and after cookie season. Girl Scouts are indeed making the world a better place, one box at a time.
