Girl Scouts represented at 2004 International Quilt Festival
Last fall, GSSJC participated in Houston’s International Quilt Festival (IQF), the world’s largest annual quilt show, sale and quilt making academy. The event, held November 3-7, boasted participants from more than three dozen different countries and set an all-time attendance record of 53,989. Terri Winsauer, IQF volunteer coordinator and longtime supporter of GSSJC, donated booth space for the Breast Cancer Awareness Committee to display quilts made as part of the Patchwork Promise Patch Program. This is the first year that the booth also proudly displayed pillows made by Girl Scouts in conjunction with the GSSJC Have a Heart for a Breast Cancer Patient Project. Many of the pillows were given to breast cancer survivors who stopped by the booth to share their inspirational stories throughout the weekend.
More than 30 GSSJC volunteers and staff members gave their time to man the Girl Scout booth. Among them was Sarah Jane A., a Senior Girl Scout who volunteered with her mom, Jane.
2004 Fall Product Sales Wrap Up
This year’s Fall Product Sale had some interesting new results. Hot Cajun Crunch soared to the top of the popularity chart while the new Chocolate Covered Almonds in the Girl Scout collectible tin edged out Double Dipped Chocolate Covered Peanuts for second place. Butterflies proved to be very popular with the girls as we received thousands of beautiful Karner Blue coloring pages. Another new aspect of the sale was the Holiday Combos, which have generated about 500 sales, adding $2,500 to the $365,112 in troop bonuses earned in the initial order. Troops will be enjoying all types of activities and trips because of the support of the sale.
Along with the fine volunteers listed below, there was a dedicated Council committee headed by Carmen Delgado and consisting of Lavinia Brown, Linda Burnett, Suzie Cunningham, Angela English, Anne Grzanka, Cary Leonard, Vicki Mireles, Laura Pemberton, Barbara Self, Amy Swanson, and Mary Lou Wilson. Marianna Olivarez, Product Sales coordinator, supported this group in their endeavors. Their commitment to girls shines brightly in the work they do for Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council.
While a big thank you goes out to all the girls, their parents, leaders and troop Fall Product Sale managers, special kudos go to the following service unit Fall Product Sale managers:
