See Jane Learn

When I was five, I couldn’t wait to go to school to learn to read and write. The whole process of learning intrigued me - I even loved Dick and Jane. (Alice and Jerry weren’t too bad either.)
That love of acquiring new knowledge has extended through my 25+ years as a volunteer for Girl Scouting. It began with training for the basics of leadership and that has culminated in a leadership course for new presidents. Every course along the way had something to offer that made each level or position easier.

Obviously other volunteers feel the same way about learning new material. Almost 10,000 people were trained in San Jacinto Council last year. Still others took training from private companies, the statewide Volunteer Conference, the Governor’s Volunteer Conference, or at the Edith Macy Conference Center.

The sessions ranged from basic leadership to being trained as a trainer of trainers. The courses all benefit the programs for girls and help adults to increase their skills and become more competent in their positions.

Check out the schedules in this issue of The Golden Link and take advantage of the trainings offered. Better yet, consider becoming a trainer yourself. Contact Judy Syring at 713-292-0254 if you are interested in learning more.

When you learn to take a troop to camp, how to deal with various behaviors or how to sail a boat, you have come a long way from Dick and Jane.

Save the date

The next regional meeting will be February 22, 6:30-8 p.m. at the Girl Scout Center. Regional meetings are an opportunity to participate in the democratic process. The meeting will provide you with an opportunity to offer input into the direction of the Council.
