Junior Badge in a Box now available

The Program Department is now offering resource boxes to girls/troops wanting to complete certain badges. The following GSUSA Badge in a Box are available:

Architecture
Jeweler
Visual Arts
Girl Scouting in the USA
Girl Scouting Around the World
Drawing and Painting
Theater
Science Sleuth

Each box lists complete directions for fulfilling each requirement as stated in the Junior Girl Scout Handbook. They contain books, charts, examples, and lesson plans to help your girls successfully earn the badge.
The boxes are located at the Houston Girl Scout Center at 3110 Southwest Freeway. You may come and pick them up and keep them for up to four weeks. Please remember that other girls may be waiting for the box. The rental fee is $5 per box and there is a $25 deposit. Your deposit will be fully refunded upon complete return of the box.
If you would like to check out a Junior Girl Scout Badge in a Box or have further questions, please contact Program Manager Sarah Boyd at 713-292-0269 or e-mail at sboyd@sjgs.org.

Storytelling Kits

The Benefactory, in partnership with GSSJC, developed storytelling kits for use by Girl Scouts for troop program, at day camps, libraries or other centers with children.
Current storytelling kit titles are Bentley and Blueberry (dogs), Chessie the Travelin’ Man (manatee), Jasmine (cat), and Wolves of Yellowstone.
Kits include: 15 soft cover copies, one hard cover copy, one plush animal, one cassette tape, one folder with resource materials including six cue cards, one storytelling script, mask making/artwork instructions and a mask design or other artwork (of which you may make copies).
How to reserve a kit: Complete the reservation form and mail to GSSJC. Troops pay a $5 rental fee. Troops also give a deposit of $25. Return all items to the folder and return the complete contents of the kit to receive your deposit. Troops keep the kits for 2–4 weeks. The Benefactory graciously allows GSSJC leaders to photocopy materials of interest to the girls found in the folder. Check The Benefactory’s Web site for free downloads, www.readplay.com. Share your experiences with others.
