Career-Tech Fair 2006
Landing your dream job — getting from here to there
What’s out there...Who’s out there? Is
the next United States president, Fortune 500 company’s
CEO or NASA Astronaut currently a member of YOUR GSSJC troop?
Do you know the career you want to explore when you graduate
from high school?
Your peers who
serve on the Career and Tech Event Girl Planning Board want
an interesting and fun event for you to explore various careers
and meet successful women who are prepared to answer your
questions about why they chose their current career, how they
balance their careers and families and other neat questions
we know you have!
These career events are for
girls ages 11-17, many times held at a university campus or
other interesting venue. At past events, the Girl Planning
Boards planned mock interviews for participants to join in
and learn! College students also reviewed participant’s
resumes so girls could learn ways to highlight their unique
strengths.
Attending the event offers Girl
Planning Board members and participants a way to earn requirements
of the Girl Scout Silver Career Award OR to meet part of the
requirements for the Girl Scout Gold Career Award.
| Girls
– tell us what careers you would like to learn about!
E-mail mgaskill@sjgs.org by October, 11.
Serving on a Council Girl
Planning Board for the event offers girls 11-17 leadership
hours.
If you’re interested in serving on a Girl Planning
Board, complete the Program Department’s application,
GSSJC F-492, found on the Council Web site, www.gssjc.org/forms/F-492.pdf
and return it to Melinda Gaskill, 3110 Southwest Freeway,
Houston, TX 77098 or e-mail it to mgaskill@sjgs.org.

her at 713-292-0232. |
The next Career
and Tech Fair is scheduled for February 25, 2006. Girl Planning
Board meetings begin in September on the third Sunday afternoon
at the Girl Scout Center and at the university location just
prior to the event.
Adults accompanying girls
– tell us what you’d like to do! This is a wonderful
opportunity for girls to meet one on one with other adults
in professions of interest to them. The wonderful leaders
and parents who transport the girls need to have an educational
experience also. Tell us your recommendations or volunteer
to host a workshop by e-mailing mgaskill@sjgs.org
Adult Advisory Board – know of some great
female professionals who would like to share their experiences
with girls? You could serve on this board, which operates
parallel to the Girl Planning Board, to recruit booth hosts
for the event and share your experiences with girls. Since
e-mail is the meeting venue for this board, volunteer by e-mailing
mgaskill@sjgs.org. |
