Welcome to New Troops

This is The Golden Link that is placed in the new troop packets. We welcome all new leaders and their Girl Scouts who will be receiving this issue.
As I write this article at the end of May, we are progressing with work on the building located at 3000 Southwest Freeway in Houston. (Located next door to our current building.) There have been a series of task groups giving input for programs and facilities. The groups have included volunteers, girls, and staff who have all had a creative voice in the brainstorming. Besides the new building, there are a lot of new and innovative things that are happening (or beginning) in Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council.

  • We expect to have a program place and a fine museum in the 3000 building.
  • Funding is almost complete for the covered riding rink at Camp Misty Meadows.
  • The Fishing Village camping unit at Camp Agnes Arnold is now one year old and girls continue to love the space.
  • We are at the midpoint of our Capital Campaign that has provided these facilities and more improvements to come.
  • The endowment for Gold Award scholarships is completed.
  • A sail house at Camp Casa Mare and a renovated lodge at Camp Robinwood will be built as funding is obtained.
  • Urban Campout (an adult gala) returned and raised more than $200,000 for Community Outreach programs.
  • More than 140 girls have received the Gold Award.
  • Most importantly, we are providing a safe nurturing place for more than 58,000 girls to learn new skills and have fun.

We’re happy to have all of the new troops join us. Take trainings and learn as much as you can about this fine organization. Attend your service unit meetings to meet other committed adults who enjoy working with young women. Have fun with your troop!
