Happy Leader Appreciation Day!

April 22 has been designated “Leader Appreciation Day” again this year. It is not just leaders that we want to acknowledge at this time of year, it is every volunteer that helps make a troop run smoothly. Without a team of volunteers, we would not have the great troops we have in GSSJC.
We want you to know how much we appreciate every leader, co-leader, cookie manager, and every other volunteer. Thank you for all you do for our girls.

Speaking of Day Camp...

Day Camp is a long standing tradition in Girl Scouting and has been a long time tradition in GSSJC, also. It often gives young girls their first taste at Girl Scouting outside the troop, and allows them to participate in activities they might never get to do otherwise.
We have some of the best day camp programs of any organization in the area, and ours are run primarily by volunteers and are one of the most affordable youth programs around. Because these camps are organized and run by volunteers, we need just that, volunteers to help at these camps. You will see in the day camp portion of this issue that there is a place where adults can volunteer to help at a day camp. The needs range from nurses and first aiders to unit leaders and craft organizers, and everything else in between.

If you have small children or young boys, you can still volunteer. Most camps have units for both groups.
Please, take the time to help at day camp this summer. The more adult volunteers we have, the more girls we can serve at camp. Think about it.

Say You’ll Stay

It’s that time of year when we in GSSJC participate in “Early Bird Registration,” and begin making plans for the summer and look forward to next fall. We hope that leaders, co-leaders and all Girl Scouts will make the decision to register for another year of fun and adventure.
As the girls grow and mature, the Girl Scout experience becomes more and more girl planned with the hope that when they are in Junior and Senior High, they are making all of their own plans. It’s the time your title of “Leader” changes to “Advisor” and you step back and advise them in the planning. There is nothing more fun than watching girls make plans and then seeing those plans become a successful event, project, or well planned trip. There is nothing more satisfying than watching a shy group of Daisy Girl Scouts grow and mature into successful Senior Girl Scouts. The only way you will get to do that is if you make the commitment now to return as a leader/advisor next year, and every year after that. Yes, it becomes part of your life, but what a great part. So, say you’ll stay, and encourage every girl and adult in your troop to stay too. You will never regret it.

April 22 is Leaders' Day

Thank You!
