Who or what is “the Council”

So often we hear people saying, “Council said_______.” Or “Those people at Council________.”
Do you know who the Council is? According to our Bylaws the Council is:
   a. Delegates elected by the service units
   b. Delegates at large elected by the Council
   c. Officers and members of the board of        directors
   d. Members of the Council Nominating        Committee
“The members of the Council shall be members of the Girl Scout Movement, 14 years of age or over, registered through Council or lifetime members affiliated with the Council.”
The Bylaws continue with specific responsibilities of the members of the Council. If you haven’t done so, take time to read this document. The Bylaws can be found in the forms file. You might also
want to look in the Blue Book of Documents to see what GSUSA has written. This document can be found in the library.
Whether you gave input to the delegates at your service unit meeting or you were a voting delegate at the Council Meeting, you are all participating in the democratic process. You have elected people to represent you and to make the necessary decisions for all of us.
At the April Council Meeting we will be electing new board members, board officers, and delegates to the National Convention. Send informed delegates elected by your service units! Exercise your rights!
I’m looking forward to seeing you at the meeting. Visitors are always welcome.
Together we will work to be a part of an outstanding Council.

We want to know what you think!
