A representative from the Sexual Assault Center will discuss
the latest statistics dealing with the sexual assault of children.
This workshop provides insight into the variety of tactics that
sexual abusers practice and what you can do to educate our youth.
Come to this important workshop and learn more about the prevention
of sexual assault as well as non-threatening ways to approach
this sensitive topic with children.
16 - Cooking With Chocolate: Chocolate can
be used to express anything from “I love you”
to “I’m sorry” as well as serving as the
number one comfort food in America. Come to this tasty workshop
to learn more about your favorite indulgence. This workshop
will include discussion on the different types of chocolate,
chocolate recipes, and tips on the various ways to cook with
this delectable dessert. *Repeat from 2004 MDC*
17- A Changing World - Up Close and Personal: Turning
on the television, or simply clicking the mouse has put our
children up close and personal with devastating world events
and occurrences. Come talk to child psychology experts to
learn how global news, wars, and natural disasters may affect
your child. This workshop will help you be better prepared
to talk with your family about the harsh realities of our
changing world.
18 – So You Want to Create a Web site: Developing
a Web site for a troop/group or a service unit can be a great
way to promote and advertise your Girl Scout activities. However,
due to the accessibility to people allover the word, there
are certain guidelines that must be addressed before creating
a Web page. Learn tips for creating a Girl Scout friendly
Web site including information |
regarding, safety, privacy, language use and copyrighted
material. This workshop will also answer questions regarding
the correct use of the Girl Scout logo and clipart. Note: This
workshop will be repeated during sessions A, B, and D at the
Information Technology booth.
19 – Climbing Cog’s Ladder:
Throughout our lives, we participate in groups, either as
girls or as leaders. Knowing how groups function and develop
is important since they are the primary means for early socialization,
for task accomplishment, for social support, and for learning.
You’ll laugh out loud watching an event planning committee
experiencing the five stages of Group Growth – Cog’s
Ladder. You may even remember a time when you were on just
this type of committee.
20 – The Sound of Music: Join us for
a Girl Scout sing-a-long! This workshop will bring back old
memories and make new ones as you lift your voice in the spirit
of Girl Scouting. Sing old, new, and tried and true Girl Scout
songs that will be tons of fun and leave you with a renewed
sense of camaraderie. (Great for troop/group program enrichment!)
21 – Mix it Up with Program: Bust
the myths and get just the facts about the programs offered
at GSSJC. Discover the wonderful opportunities that await
girls with girl planning boards, special interest groups,
program opportunities and more.
22 – Taking Care of Business: Discover
the “Donald” in you and find out what it takes
to become a successful entrepreneur. As a Girl Scout volunteer
you have a multitude of transferable skills that enable you
to become your own boss. Learn the success secrets needed
to achieve the American Dream and profitably operate your
own business. |
23 - Allies for Animals: Animal shelters
work to save lives of animals, prevent animal abuse, and educate
individuals to be responsible pet owners. In order to continue
this work, animal shelters depend on the support of the community.
Walking dogs, providing food, showing affection, assisting
in an “Adopt a Pet” day are a few of the many
unknown opportunities that exist for troops/groups to assist
animal shelters. Learn from a local animal shelter how girls
can meet a shelter’s needs by participating in numerous
service projects and education programs. *Repeat from 2004

24 – The Sum of Your Parts: Hear a
panel of medical experts discuss the important aspects of
taking care of your aching feet, tired eyes, and skin. These
neglected areas are very important for keeping yourself healthy.
