Girl Scout & Boy Scout Day
at Six Flags AstroWorld
Saturday, September 11

Six Flags AstroWorld theme park is closing its gates to the public and reopening them up just for GIRL SCOUT & BOY SCOUT DAY! This day is full of fun and excitement when Girl Scouts and their friends and family can go on their favorite rides and see special exhibits and performances by Girl Scout and Boy Scout groups. The Green Starlettes drill team, Take Note choir, and others provide entertainment for this family fun event. The date is Saturday, September 11 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. You won’t believe at how inexpensive these tickets are at only $19 plus tax. To be a part of the action, purchase your tickets in advance at any of the Girl Scout Shops. Tickets will be available at the Six Flags gate for an additional amount.

Council Service Project

Bring chalk and white socks (to be used as erases) and letters for a service project. These items will be packaged with learning boards and sent to school children overseas.

Bring Flags

Troops can collect and bring United States flags that should be retired. Help educate people in your community about the proper way to dispose of a flag once it is worn. One flag, symbolic of all the others, will be retired on September 11 at Girl Scout & Boy Scout Day at Six Flags AstroWorld. After the event, troops, groups, and service units will be needed to assist in retiring the flags collected from the community.

Essay Competition

Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts may submit a one-page essay on the topic “What does freedom mean to me?” First, second, and third place winners will be selected from girls and boys in each of two age groups: ages 5-10 and ages 11-17. Finalists will be notified prior to Girl Scout & Boy Scout Day and asked to read their essays at Six Flags’ Center Stage during the awards ceremony. Mail entries to Six Flags AstroWorld, Attention Group Sales, Amy Stine, 9001 Kirby Drive, Houston, TX 77054. Deadline is September 3. Entries must contain your name, address, home phone, age, birth date, signature of parent or guardian, and date.

Dear Troop #12284,
Thank your for your contribution of 62 birthday bags to BEAR...BE A Resource for CPS Kids. Your gift, joined with others, will touch the lives of abused and neglected children in Harris County.

All of the birthday bags are perfect. Because of your work, many children will have a happy birthday for the first time in their lives. I hope all of you feel very special because your hard work will help others feel very special, too.

Thanks to the contributions last year, 9,500 neglected children received new items including shoes, school uniforms, replacement clothes, car seats, diapers, hygiene items, and other necessities. Other Girl Scouts who would like to donate items to BEAR can call me at 713-940-5296.

Mary Green, Director of BEAR

Dear GSSJC,
As you know, Houston and Chiba City are sister cities and we have exchanged our Girl Scouts twice from us and once from your side. We believe that girls have learned a lot through the program and for world peace mutual understanding should be the best way.
This year we are sending seven Girl Scouts and four leaders. Thankfully, they are given a chance of camping at one of your beautiful campsites, Casa Mare. I am sure that they will have a wonderful time there to get together with your Girl Scouts.
For our future exchange program, we would like to invite your Girl Scouts and leaders to Chiba next summer.
We deeply appreciate your staff’s great efforts taking care of all the necessary procedures and arrangements to accept us.

Yoko Horiya, Council President, Girl Scouts of Chiba City Area
