Event #17
**Semaphores – Code Flags
Card Requirement: None
Number of Participants: Entire Crew

Semaphores have long been used as a means to communicate. The alphabet is represented with a series of flags. Each team will receive a copy of the flags and should take time to learn them by sight. The crew will be required to send and decipher a message within a 10 minute time limit. The messages will be assigned by the event captain and will be a common Girl Scout phrase or term. A designated sender (chosen before the event) will signal the message while the remaining crew will decipher it. If the sender is unable to send the message, a replacement sender can be chosen by the remaining crew, but the original sender cannot participate further in the event. While the message is being sent, crew members may not speak to one another. After it has been sent, the crew may compare notes and turn in one version of the message.
