Save the Date
GAM is April 23, 2005
GAM is a wide game event to be held at Camp Casa Mare. It
is open to all Juniors, Cadettes, and Senior Girl Scouts.
Crews compete throughout the day to have fun and win awards.
Each crew is made up of 5-10 girls. They can be from the same
troop or from several troops. The crew leader can be the troop
leader or another registered adult Girl Scout. Many crews
will have girls of mixed levels.
One troop can register more than one crew! Most events need
4 girls. So half of your crew can do one event and the other
half can do the next.
Crews will create their own names and identities. You will
register your crew using this name and all communications
will be sent using this crew name. Some past crews were the
“little mermaids,” “sea dragons,”
and “dancing dolphins.” You may also create a
banner and T-shirt that will represent your crew!
Some events require swim cards, safe boater cards and/or
sail cards, but many do not require anything but a wish to
have fun! But, don’t delay! Get those swim cards updated
and take the Safe Boat Test with your girls!
Many of the GAM events and preparations can easily be incorporated
into the troop-year program and badge work. All events will
be listed in future issues of The Golden Link.
Four trainings will be held and will cover knots, sunfish
rigging, nautical flags and lashings. The trainings are recommended
for girls and leaders that have not previously attended GAM.
However, attending a training is not a requirement. The final
training dates will be in a future issue of The Golden Link.
The deadline to register for GAM is February 15, 2005! Questions,
contact Sarah Boyd, 713-292-0269 or sboyd@sjgs.org. |
