GSSJC dedicates Robert and Janice McNair Foundation Equestrian Center at camp

To commemorate the $1 million capital and endowment gift of the Robert and Janice McNair Foundation and to thank the McNairs for their invaluable support in helping to expand and improve the Girl Scout equestrian program, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council unveiled the entrance gate to the Robert and Janice McNair Foundation Equestrian Center in a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 17 at Camp Misty Meadows in Conroe.
Janice McNair and McNair Foundation Executive Director Joanie Haley attended the event along with other invited guests. The group experienced camp in true form as they loaded onto a peoplemover at Podville and rode to the new fishing village at Camp Agnes Arnold. Campers staying in the fishing village gave the group a tour of the village and presented McNair with a framed picture. Then it was off to Camp Misty Meadows to attend the camp’s opening flag ceremony performed on horseback. CEO Mary Vitek thanked the McNair Foundation for its support in front of an audience of 100 campers and a representative from the SPURS (Super People Using Riding Skills) group gave a shadowbox to McNair proclaiming Janice McNair an honorary SPURS member.
After the ceremony, McNair and guests took a short trail ride and then joined Girl Scout campers for lunch in the lodge before loading back onto the peoplemover to Podville for their return trip home.
