Calling all future camp cooks!

If you like dazzling people with your culinary skills,
get into the kitchen (GSSJC’s Camp Kitchen that is)
Try to imagine 100 hungry girls and adults waiting in line for a delicious meal. But wait; there was no Camp Kitchen Certified cook for your event. No one was available. You could prevent this tragedy from happening by volunteering to be a Camp Kitchen Certified Cook.
Camp cooks work together in cooking teams, so you’re not alone. You will make new friends with the same interests as you. You’ll gain skills for a lifetime in this practical, hands-on 2-part training. Use your new-found skills to cook for your church, your next family reunion, or even your next party.

If you hold a position in the food industry or have equivalent training in your profession, you may be able to “place out” of part 1 of the training. Contact Donna Marshall at 713-292-0294 if you think you qualify. Everyone must attend the hands-on part 2 at our camp kitchen. After your training, you will be required to attend a one-time apprenticeship to complete your certification. Sign up today! You won’t want to miss this opportunity!

Camp Kitchen Certification : During this 2-part training you will learn the necessary skills to become a certified Council cook with access to Council camp kitchen facilities. Learn how to budget and plan meals, buy in bulk, use and care for kitchen equipment, and the fun of team cooking. The second part of Camp Kitchen Certification is a day-long, hands on session held at one of the Council camp kitchens.

Nominate someone today
Use these hints for getting an award for that special person

Do you know an outstanding adult who is deserving of recognition? Here is a step-by-step guide that will assist in making that Council/national award become a reality.

Obtain the appropriate application form.
- Adult Recognition Nomination Form (F-54)
- Family Award Nomination Form (F-57)
- Community Award Nomination Form (F-116)

Hint: These forms may be found in this issue of The Golden Link, on the Council Web site (www.gssjc.org), or in the Forms File at the Girl Scout Center.

Fill out the form completely and accurately.

Hint: Make sure you include how long nominee has given service to GSSJC and highlight specific contributions.

Identify two additional registered adults (one may be a staff member) who know the nominee and will agree to write a letter of endorsement.

Hint: Make sure to include volunteers and staff whose endorsements will reflect each of the aspects of the nominee’s service (i.e. trainers, service unit volunteer, Council committee, etc.). The nominee’s volunteer supervisor is a great resource.

 Obtain current Volunteer Service Record (F-122).

Hint: These forms may be found in service unit files or in Volunteer Records at the Girl Scout Center. Be sure to update the form to include current information. (The Council Adult Recognition Committee will concentrate on service past the previous recognition.) If you cannot find a Volunteer Service Record form anywhere, try to reconstruct one with information gathered from people who know the nominee.

Mail complete nomination packet to Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, 3110 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77098, Attn: Adult Recognition Committee. A complete nomination packet includes:

- Nomination Application (F-54 or F-57 or F-116);
- Three Letters of Endorsement, one from you and two from others (F-54a); and
- Volunteer Service Record (F-122) per nominated adult.

Hint: A complete nomination packet will enable the Council Adult Recognition Committee to proceed processing the nomination without delay.
