Girl Scout Silver Award
The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest
national earned award for 11-14 year old Girl Scouts. As a
girl completes the steps to earn the Silver Award, she develops
her leadership potential, communication skills, and a sense
of community involvement, self-knowledge and information on
careers.
Details for earning the Silver Award are in
the “Go For It!” Silver Award STUDIO 2B insert,
available at any Council Shop and through the GSUSA catalog
or the www.girlscouts.org Web site. Complete information is
also provided to girls who attend GSSJC’s “Silver
Polish” workshop held every other month at locations
throughout the council. Girls must be at least 11 years old
AND in the 6th grade to attend this orientation session. For
more information, check The Golden Link, the Council Information
Network (CIN) listings found on the Council Web site, www.gssjc.org
or e-mail silveraward@sjgs.org.
Beginning October 1, 2004, all girls who are
ready to begin the Project phase of the Girl Scout Silver
Award must complete and send in a GSSJC Silver Award Project
Review Request Form. Although a girl’s troop advisor
(leader) gives approval for the content of the project, the
Council Silver Award Review Committee must also review the
project to ensure that any money earning activities, use of
the Girl Scout name or property, and collaborations with community
groups or organizations follow the guidelines established
by Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council. Girls can expect to
receive an approval letter (or, in some rare instances, a
request for additional information) within three weeks of
submitting their completed form. Girls may not begin work
on their project until they receive an approval letter. The
approval letter should be kept in a safe place and must be
attached to the final GSSJC Silver Award Report Form (GSSJC
form F-493) for submittal at any Council shop to purchase
the Girl Scout Silver Award Pin. |
