2005 Girl Scout Cookie Sale

Girls selling Girl Scout cookies get a raise

How many people do you know that got a 24% pay increase this year? Not many - if any! The truth is though, that every troop in Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council did!
Did you know that this year, although the price of a package of cookies will increase to $3.50, which is a 16.6% increase, troops will retain 24.4% more bonus money than last year! For every package of cookies that is paid for, troops will retain 56 cents! If your troop sells 100 cases of cookies, your bonus will be $672, as compared to the $540 you would have received last year.
Much thought and study has been put into the decision to raise the price of cookies for our Council. GSSJC has not experienced an increase in eight years. There are many things that both the

Make Forever Memories a Service Project

Make someone’s day this holiday season with a handmade card. Girl Scouts of any age can turn card making into a service project. Remember a handmade card is a hug with a fold in the middle and everybody needs a hug, especially during the holiday season.
Have your troop take some time to make a forever memory this holiday season. There are many people in our neighborhoods who never receive any holiday cards and would love to receive a beautiful handmade card to show they are not forgotten. Here are some people who would love a card: hospitalized children or adults (contact your local hospitals’ volunteer services center for information), families staying at Ronald McDonald House while their children are treated for serious illnesses at nearby hospitals, or senior citizens in your neighborhood or a nearby retirement center. Contact the local retirement center for a resident’s name, or enclose a note with your card requesting that it be given to someone who needs cheering up.

Easy Card Making

Christmas Card: 11 x 8.5 piece of white cardstock cut into two. Easily make two cards. Tear a piece of patterned paper 1.5 inches wide and adhere to folded card. Cut one white 2 inch square and one red 2.25-inch square from cardstock and adhere white on top. Rubber stamp holiday design on white square and adhere to folded card.

Hanukkah Card: 11 x 8.5 piece of blue cardstock cut into two.
Cut square of white paper to fit card front. Cut nine rectangles of blue cardstock. (Angle sides and ends of rectangles) Adhere rectangles to card front; adhere buttons above rectangles or draw flames.

Council and troops can do with the funds. Did you know that a basic week at resident camp would cost $560 instead of $280 if it weren’t for the Cookie Sale? Did you know it takes the proceeds of 31,484 packages of cookies to take care of the horses at Camp Misty Meadows for one year?
Start planning now with your troop to spend your raise wisely. Consult with the girls on their goals. Take that extra trip, do that extra service project, or give to the Capital Campaign by participating in “Celebrate Camp Robinwood.” Whatever the girls decide, be sure that they “make forever memories!”
Enjoy the raise–you’ve earned it!
