SPURS Parade Team rides again

The SPURS Parade Team participated in the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo Parade in downtown Pasadena on September 25. Brownie Troop #1398 also rode in a wagon as part of the parade. All were a big hit as evidenced by the cheers of parade watchers along the route. The team participates in two to four parades each year. The Conroe Rodeo Parade will be next up for the group.

The Spurs Parade Team consists from 8 to 10 riders, three of whom are adults. The riders must be level 4 or 5 SPURS. Tryouts are in the fall each year so that riders have time to practice the formations and also to learn pre-parade grooming and bathing of the horses. Team members can ride for a maximum of two years. They can serve as part of the ground crew for any number of years. The ten horses on the team are chosen very carefully and much loved by the girls who ride them. One horse, Bud, hasn’t missed a parade in 13 years. Team work, among people and horses, is paramount to the success of this special group.
