Congratulations Gold Award recipients

These Senior Girl Scouts recently completed their Gold Award projects and by doing so, earned the Gold Award.

Jessica B. planned and directed a parade called “Santa Is coming to Meadow Vista.” The parade was led by Santa on a fire truck. It ended at a large parking lot and the children took pictures with Santa and received a goody bag.

Christina B. had a back-to-school supply drive for the Mission of Yahweh. She made flyers advertising the drive and went to stores to get donations. She helped package the supplies and distribute them to those who needed them.

Lauren P. put on an animal information event for Juniors. This information included animal safety, health, basic pet care, relationships with humans, and careers relating to animals. She had speakers in fields of animal health and training, arts and crafts, and animal exhibits.

Kortney C. coordinated toiletry and food drives for the Ronald McDonald House. She also made blankets for the families, helped out a few specific children with their personal needs, and regularly brought homemade meals.

Alyson V. ran a twilight camp for 50 girls. She prepared the crafts, making sure they matched requirements for try-its and badges, made samples, wrote instructions, and trained group leaders. She also collected items for Angela House.

Mimi Z. taught kids about international cultures. She held a program with KISD’s GT branch where kids made crafts and tried different foods. She also held a Thinking Day event in her service unit and had a display at a library.

Victoria B. collected hygiene and first aid items for Healthcare for the Homeless Center. She also sewed drawstring bags to put the items in for each person.

Blaire C. planned patterns and directions for making baby blankets and asked troops to help make them. She and the troops made 105 blankets along with 10 knitted caps to donate to Texas Children’s Hospital.

Mary T. helped chair the awards ceremonies at the 2003 Special Olympics. She made a brochure to recruit volunteers, set up equipment for the event, and prepared the awards area for the presentations. She also helped present athletes with awards.

Shaunda G. did arts and crafts and science projects with children at Fort Bend County Women’s Shelter. She also held a donations drive for the shelter. She collected games, clothes, crafts, and videos.

Ashleigh W. created birthday cards for each resident at the Mariner Health Retirement Home. She also made decorations for each major holiday and delivered the them to the residents a few days before the holiday.

Alison J. and Cotton S.
worked together to prepare useful information for the elderly. They collected emergency cards, legal information, calendars, and more. They distributed these items to an assisted living center and to homebound senior citizens. They did this around Fourth of July and handed out patriotic decorations and had groups go with them to sing patriotic songs. Their church, St. Thomas More, asked girls to provide the emergency cards to a group of 300 senior citizens in the parish. They held a bake sale at the church to raise enough money to give out the cards.
