What About Me? That’s a question both mothers and daughters ask as they face the many changes that occur as girls enter their teenage years. Girls may think it’s all about them, but there are lots of changes for moms during these years, too. Learning to communicate about these issues makes these challenging years easier for everyone.
Take your choice of two break-out sessions. Sample break-out sessions include: You Are What You Eat; Shop ‘Til You Drop; Boys, Boys, Boys!, I’m a Princess; Fun & Fit; and I Can Do That!
Break-out sessions are provided with the help of: the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council; Girls, Inc; the Houston Area Women’s Center; the McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science; Texas Executive Women; and The Women’s Fund for Health Education and Research.
After the event, be sure to stay for fabulous mother/daughter door prizes and a complimentary museum tour! What a great way to spend a Saturday!

Experience life as a sailor on the Tall Ship Elissa

Standing on the deck of Elissa, you have a clear view back to the days when salt spray and tall ships were second nature to “square-riggers.” In a special overnight adventure, those days come to life again for Girl Scouts who want to experience “a sailor’s life.”
After a tour of the Elissa and a wide screen presentation of “Elissa, the Longest Voyage,” the overnight crew learns by doing. They help set one of Elissa’s huge staysails, and they work with the ship’s volunteer crew to master seagoing knots and rope craft.
Overnight, participants follow one of the oldest traditions of the sea–keeping watch over the Elissa and the Galveston harbor.

Group activities include:
• Designing and flying your groups flag during your stay.
• Learn and practice knot tying and finding those knots on the Elissa.
• Set and douse Elissa’s staysail.
• Line handling.
• Sea chanties.
• Log entries and keeping watch overnight.
• Science, ecology, and seamanship are themes and activities exhibited on-site.
