at Focus 2004

June 26 at the Girl Scout Center

The focus of the day is “Making Connections.” Bring your entire service team together for a full day of job specific and enrichment trainings. Connect with other service teams, build a rapport with your team and have fun!

Time: Check in begins at 8:30 a.m. Coffee and donuts will be available. The first session begins promptly at 9 a.m.
Fee: $5
Bring: Training record booklet, lunch (no time to go out). Soft drink and snack machines are available.
Register: By mail or online by June 18 to ensure placement in class of your choice. Classes subject to closing or cancellation depending on registrations.

 

9 a.m. - noon
The Amazing GSSJC Road Race
Just like in a road race – you’ll form racing teams and “travel” from checkpoint to checkpoint. Your team will learn to connect to your community, chart a path through the GSSJC Web site, and map out ways to use the newest resources available to administrators and leaders. #4647
Thanks a Million
Appreciation is an ongoing, everyday process for anyone, anywhere, anytime. This course is an expanded version of Adult Recognition training. It will provide you with information on service unit, Council, and national recognitions and the responsibilities of the service unit recognitions committee. You will also receive tips on record keeping and ideas on how to say “Thank a Million” for a job well done. #4651


Building the Service Team
A team is only as strong as its weakest member. Explore the 5 stages of team development through games and activities. Take a brief look at roles and responsibilities on service teams. Score yourself as a team member and find ways to work with styles different from your own. Share things winning team members need to know. #4652


Leader Mentor Facilitator Training (ELF)
The training will show how experienced leaders can mentor new leaders. Included will be techniques for helping leaders prepare for their first few meeting, get through that first parent meeting, and plan the

investiture. Training is designed both for individuals who have been appointed as leader mentors (ELF-experienced leader friend) or as their service unit Mentor Leader coordinator. Coordinators will receive outlines and tips for sharing what they learn with others. #4653


3 – 4:30 p.m.
Ethics for Excellence
In this course, participants will learn to identify the right decisions for the right reasons when dealing with people. Course includes real life situations and ethical ways to deal with them. #4654


Facing Conflict Head On!
Learn ways to think “out of the box” when dealing with conflict. This course will equip you with proven step-by-step tools to use in any situation where people are disagreeing. You’ll learn when you need to step in, when to back off, and how to keep your own cool while calming the waters of interpersonal conflicts. #4655

3 – 5 p.m.
Volunteer Records Management
If you are part of the volunteer management process, you need this training. Complete information on volunteer applications, criminal background checking procedure, responsibilities of service unit personnel, and the entire volunteer records management process. #4656


Treasurer
For service unit treasurers. Covers how to manage money including development of a proposed budget and management of income and expenditures. Learn how to set up a bank account and use GSSJC forms relating to finance. #4657

12:45 – 3:45 p.m.
Registrar
Learn the ins and outs of the registration process, such as completing the paperwork, hold notices, financial assistance forms, and placement of girls into existing troops. This course is designed for NEW registrars. #4648


Beyond Ready, Set, Go!
Now that you have completed the basics of Administrators’ training and have a year of experience in the position, come learn more about your leadership style in working with members of your service unit – how to bring out the best in all of them. You’ll receive the latest updates, what’s new in service unit meetings this year, and ideas to add sparkle to your meetings so all leaders

will want to come. Are events lighting a flame or burning people out? We’ll explore this interesting dilemma. #4649
