Teens can soar in 2004 with STUDIO 2B

What it is

STUDIO 2B, developed with girls’ input, is an innovative way for girls ages 11-17 to connect with each other, get advice from advisors, and try new activities. In STUDIO 2B, girls control what they do, pursue their own interests, and make the time commitment that they choose to make.
STUDIO 2B is based on four program goals: Become, Belong, Believe, and Build. Sometimes tweens and teens want to spend time talking and relating in the safe space of their “studio” and sometimes they want to venture out and do something new. Whatever they choose to do, STUDIO 2B is the place for girls “to be” their very best.
Girls and volunteers participating in STUDIO 2B are registered Girl Scouts, pay membership dues, and accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. If girls want to, they can earn the Girl Scout Silver and Gold Awards, wear uniforms, and participate in product sales. Girls can participate in STUDIO 2B as an individual or with a troop/group.

Materials

Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council offers STUDIO 2B materials in its Girl Scout Shops. Girls can choose among many options for participating in STUDIO 2B.

· The STUDIO 2B Collections Series speaks to girls based on their distinct needs and concerns at ages 11-13, 13-15, and 15-17. Each STUDIO 2B Collections book contains celebrity interviews, quizzes, advice columns, and activities.

· STUDIO 2B Basics is a fun, planner-sized binder. The binder is a great way to keep track of all the activities teens have going on in their lives. It comes with an insert about belonging to Girl Scouts through STUDIO 2B. New inserts will be released periodically.

· STUDIO 2B Focus is an activity and award series that girls can do individually or in groups. The book series provide girls with the opportunity to tailor their own experiences based on their individual needs, interests, and skill level. In partnership with their adult advisors, girls decide what they hope to accomplish with each Focus book they choose and then set goals for themselves. They earn the coordinating charm when they have met their own goals.

· STUDIO 2B online, www.studio2b.org, is a place girls can visit to find monthly tips to help them be their best selves, find polls and quizzes they can do and then discuss when they get together, hear about upcoming events, and get the latest news from the National By Girls, For Girls Advisory Committee.

Groups

Tweens and teens can join in many interest groups offered by Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council. Age and skill requirements vary from group to group so once you find one that’s right for you, call the Program Department at 713-292-0300 to learn more.

· SPURS horseback riding group;
· Take Note choir;
· Archery group;
· Puppetry troupe;
· Green Starlettes drill team;
· Backpacking group;
· Canoeing group;
· Scuba Diving group;
· Earth PACT conservation group;
· Dream, Dare, Do leadership class;
· Senior Senate; and more.
