Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts are eligible for
GSUSA Girl Leadership Projects

Program Aide, Senior Program Aide, Leader-In-Training (LIT), and Counselor-In-Training (CIT) are four of the Girl Scouts of the USA Girl Leadership Projects available for Cadette or Senior Girl Scouts.
Specific information on each of these projects is found in the GSUSA Cadette and Senior handbooks and on the GSSJC Web site under the Cadette or Senior folders in the Leader Resources section.
Girls begin the process for any of these leadership programs by completing the Girl Application for Leadership Project form and requesting an adult who is not related to them to complete a reference form. The application and reference forms are available in the Forms section of the GSSJC Web site, www.gssjc.org.

Program Aide
Program Aide is a leadership program for girls who have completed the sixth grade and who want to work with troops or groups during the Girl Scout program year or in the day camp setting. The training consists of 10 hours (6 hours of Core training and a 4-hour specialty training). Girls are eligible to wear the Program Aide Pin upon completion of their training; they may purchase the Program Aide Patch after serving 25 hours as a program aide. All 10 hours of training are being offered in January at Camp Agnes Arnold (advertised in October issue of The Golden Link and on the October and November Council Information Network listings, www.gssjc.org) and the FIRST session of the GSSJC program Summer Carousel at Camp Robinwood. The Program Department will also offer the 6-hour CORE TRAINING ONLY this spring:

Leader-In-Training
LIT offers girls the opportunity for a leadership role in a troop. To become an LIT, girls who have completed the ninth grade take an orientation hosted by the Program Department, an additional 4-hour training through the Adult Development Department for the candidate’s choice of program level (i.e. Brownie, Junior), then observe two different troops for a period of time. A girl may wear the LIT Pin upon completion of these steps. The LIT candidate then is paired up with a troop whose leader has taken a Mentor Leader training. The LIT commits to working with the troop for at least 25 hours over a 5- to 8-month period, whereupon she is eligible to wear the LIT Patch. LIT Orientation will be offered at the Senior Girl Scout training weekend in the fall.

Senior Program Aide
Another option for taking a leadership role in the troop environment is Senior Program Aide. Girls at the Senior Girl Scout program level take the 6-hour Program Aide core training (this is waived if the girl has already taken the core training as a Cadette Girl Scout) and the 4-hour Group Leader training offered by the Adult Development Department to help prepare her to work with a troop of her choice. At this point she may purchase the Senior Program Aide Pin. She then commits to work with the troop of her choice or with organizations and programs where a girl can use her program aide skills for at least 25 hours, completion of which entitles her to wear the Senior Program Aide Patch.

Counselor-In-Training
CIT offers girls the opportunity for a leadership role in a day camp or resident camp setting. Girls complete a 12-hour core training, which entitles them to wear the CIT Pin. Upon completion of a 2-week day camp or 1-week resident camp internship, they may purchase the CIT Patch. Upcoming CIT are scheduled during resident camp.
