| Jessie
and Courtney held a “Beanie Baby Bingo”
for the patients and their families at the Rotary House of
M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. They also held a “Cookie
Decorating Bonanza.” They played games, provided popcorn
and cookies, and talked to the patients. They also gathered
donations for the pediatric patients like school supplies,
books, and movies..
Sarah
created an Art Contest for the Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center.
This contest allowed children from schools in the area to
become involved in their community. The art was displayed,
and awards given at the Nature Center’s annual fish
fry.
Natasha
wrote a one-hour musical which incorporated songs from various
popular Broadway shows. She performed the musical with three
of her friends. The admission to the show was donations of
school supplies and toiletries that were donated to the Boys
and Girls Country. They held six performances and collected
1,600 items.
Joshulyn
collected board games for children at the Patrice House. She
visited several times a week to teach the children how to
use the games. She also held a party for the children and
presented them with a bean bag she made for them. |
Sarah
furnished Hope House #4. This two-bedroom, two-bath apartment
is used by families while their child receives medical treatment.
She furnished a list of items to service units so troops could
select an item to donate. She planned and held a “House
Shower” to present the items to Project Joy and Hope
of Texas.
Marjory
helped to organize an open house for a local wildlife rehabilitation
center. She also helped two Girl Scout troops earn badges
pertaining to wildlife. In addition she spoke at a twilight
camp about her experiences volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation
center.
Dana
helped homeless families in transition through the Interfaith
Hospitality Network. She organized nights where church youth
from First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood would prepare dinner,
eat and socialize with the guests, and provide entertainment.

Karen
helped run a twilight camp. She arranged a book and magazine
drive through the camp to benefit residents of Atria Assisted
Living and Edenbrook Assisted Living facilities. She also
arranged for the campers to perform a Fourth of July show
for the residents.
Julia
created a reading corner for a shelter for homeless families.
She held a drive among members of her church for gently used
books, bookshelves, tape players, and tapes. She sorted and
repaired donations and read books onto tapes. Books in English
and Spanish were included.
Rebecca
collected fabric and other materials to make blankets. She
then held a baby shower for members of the community to have
fun, learn to sew, and help make blankets for Project Linus.
She also worked with younger girls at a camp teaching them
about sewing and getting them to help with the blankets.
