Troop Spotlight
Girls know education can save lives

Junior Girl Scout Troop #12359 from St. Anne School wanted to help their teachers and their own families save a life. “When they learned that four minutes was all it takes for permanent brain damage to occur when a person’s heartbeat stops, they couldn’t wait to learn CPR,” said Kathleen.

The girls asked Dr. David Persse, City of Houston Fire Department EMS medical director, for help with the First Aid Badge. With such contagious enthusiasm, Dr. Persse who believes everyone should be trained in CPR, went a step further and contacted Kristy Vandenberg, director for the Western Region of the American Red Cross of Greater Houston to help.

The troop invited other Junior Girl Scouts, leaders, teachers, and family members to join them. Not to be left out, the second grade Brownie troop participated in the Red Cross “First Aid for Today’s Family” program. Everyone had the opportunity to view the Fire Department Medic 99 special events ambulance.

Physio-Control decided the girls’ endeavor was worth rewarding and sent Dereck Dietrich to donate an automated external defibrillator (AED) to St. Anne School Principal Kathy Barnosky just in time to train the teachers how to use this equipment.

Attend Resident Camp Open House

Resident Camp Open House Day will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 7. Parents, future and returning campers, and their families are invited to tour Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council’s three resident camps: Camp Agnes Arnold, Camp Casa Mare, and Camp Misty Meadows.
