Over the past year, Girl Scouts of
all ages throughout GSSJC have participated in a special project
to make quilts for the seven families of the Columbia astronauts.
This February, GSSJC will present the finished quilts to the
seven families.
Throughout the months of the project, many stories have been
shared about the joy of making quilt squares for the families.
One Brownie troop from the Clear Lake region had astronaut Mike
Massamino speak to them as they made their quilt squares. Here
is a letter and a poem the troop wrote for the fallen astronauts
and their families. |

| Dear Columbia Astronaut Families,
We are
a Brownie troop in Clear Lake who are your neighbors and friends.
Our participation in this project warmed our hearts knowing
that we could try to do something to help you. Please know
that Girl Scouts around the world share in your sorrow and
our hope is that these quilts will represent a portion of
the love that the whole world has for you.
We sewed hearts (fabric we brought from our own clothes and
special pieces) to remind you that we love you and to remind
you that “Brownie Magic Shines Bright” …even
in heaven.
We wish you love and peace.
