Girl Scout Spotlight
Junior Girl Scout treats dogs to gourmet goodies

by Angelique Riquelmy

Girl Scout Kaitlyn R., a 10-year-old fourth grader from McRoberts Elementary in Katy and gourmet dog treat chef, was invited in May to speak to sixth graders at Northwest Intermediate Junior High, a magnet school for business in Aldine ISD about being a child entrepreneur.

Kaitlyn was inspired while working on a Girl Scout Business-Wise badge to start her own business. When she reflected on her love of dogs and her love of cooking, the decision was easy! She chose to be a doggie treat chef and Munchy Crunchy Gourmet Dog Treats was born. After using her neighborhood four legged friends as a test market for delicious gourmet recipes (some humans have tried them too, they are 100% natural), she presented her product to a shop in Old Town Katy. Mrs. Sylvia Q. Sierra from The Pink Magnolia Gallery spotted a shining star in Kaitlyn and offered to carry her gourmet doggie treat in her gallery.

Munchy Crunchy Gourmet Dog Treats assortment consists of Cheesy Garlic Chews, Peanut Butter Delights, Chicken Biscuits, and “Pupcakes.” Pupcakes are cupcake size birthday cakes for celebrating your pal’s special day.

What’s next for Kaitlyn? “I am partnering with Town Planner Community Calendar to host a Hot Diggety Dog Festival on September 25, during National Dog Week, at The Pink Magnolia. It will be a festival of activities for dogs and the people who love them. We also plan on having a mobile vet, food for everyone, training demonstrations and pet artists. Someday I hope to go on to veterinary school so I can help animals in a different way.” For now, Kaitlyn will continue to satisfy the pallets of her furry clientele with her irresistible recipes.
