TASTE OF CANOEING
(Girls ages 10 & up and in 5th grade)
This is a fun course designed to introduce girls to the sport of canoeing. This course will include learning about the parts of a canoe and paddle, how to get in and out of a canoe, how to tie knots, and general canoeing safety and rescue skills.

PREREQUISITE: GSSJC Safe Boating Test Certificate
DATE: TOC -1 July 31, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

RED CROSS CANOEING CERTIFICATION FOR FLAT OR NON MOVING WATER

FUNdamentals OF CANOEING
(girls ages 12 & up and adults)
The Red Cross FUNdamentals of Canoeing course covers FUNdamentals of canoeing, including introduction to the sport, equipment, boating safety basic techniques, strokes, and rescues. This course teaches students to be safe on and around the water while learning to canoe in a flat water environment. It teaches self-rescue skills and rescue of others. Students will canoe at Armand Bayou off Bay Area Blvd.

PREREQUISITE:
Swimming Ability: Girls–ARC Learn to Swim Level III swim card or better or equivalent and GSSJC Safe Boating Test; Adult–GSSJC Safe Boating Test
TEXT: Plan to purchase and read PRIOR to class: ARC CANOEING AND KAYAKING, read chapters 1, 2, 3.
DATE: August 6-8
TIME: 7 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Sunday
FEE: $42 includes all meals but does not include book

FUNDAMENTALS OF CANOEING REVIEW
(Girls ages 12 & up and adults)
If you have taken the Red Cross FUNdamentals of Canoeing course and desire to enhance your skills, this is for you. Review of the techniques, strokes, rescues and knots will be included. This course reinforces the skills you learned in FOC and prepares you for possible participation in a moving water course or perhaps an instructor course. Students will canoe at Armand Bayou off Bay Area Boulevard.

PREREQUISITE:
Swimming Ability: Girls–ARC Learn to Swim Level III swim card or better or equivalent AND GSSJC Safe Boating Test
Adult: GSSJC Safe Boating Test Cert
Canoeing Ability: FUNdamentals of Canoeing certificate or Small Craft Safety–Canoeing certificate
NOTE: All participants must satisfactorily complete the Red Cross small craft swim test at the beginning of the course.

NAUTICAL NONSENSE
(girls ages 9-11)
Enjoy the day doing nautical activities around the bay. Learn how to tie knots, how to float a boat, be a survivor, and more. Investigate what types of boats are at camp and learn things to become an expert boater.

SKIP JACK STORIES
(Daisies - Brownies)
Learn about safe boating habits, personal floatation devices, basic rescues, and safety around the bay. Girls can have lunch and swim. The course teaches safety on and around the waterfront. Portions of the Brownie Sports and Games Try-it are covered.

TASTE OF SAILING
(Girls ages 10 up)
This course introduces girls to the sport of sailing. It includes learning how to rig/de-rig a sailboat, nautical terminology, proper sailor attire, knots, and safety concerns.
