"I
always wanted to be a Girl Scout when I was a girl, but they said there
was no room. They put my name on a waiting list, and they never called.
So as soon as my daughters were old enough, I signed them up and the rest
is history," says GSSJC Board Member Carole Lowenkron. "When
I realized how much the program had done for my girls as well as for myself
personally, I was hooked for life," she adds.
Carole, whose favorite
Girl Scout song is "Doodley Doo," is well known among many Girl
Scout volunteers as an accomplished song leader. Carole has delivered
countless trainings to leaders on songs and games and has spent many summers
under the Singing Tree at day camp. "I enjoy singing Girl Scout songs
with both girls and adults," she says. She has trained more than
3,000 hours for the Council; maybe she was your trainer for Daisy, Brownie,
Junior, or Administrative courses. A GSUSA nationally certified Instructor
of Trainers, a true Green and Gold volunteer, Carole's dedication and
leadership have helped girls grow strong throughout her 27-year career
as a San Jacinto volunteer.
"I have held
numerous positions, including troop leader, day camp director, |
service
unit manager, Council delegate, national delegate, and been a member of
the Council nominating and Performance Assessment and Strategic Plan Task
Force." Carole has also delivered traditional troop program to mothers
and their daughters incarcerated at the Lucille Plane State Prison facility
in Dayton. She currently serves as the vice chair of Membership Services
and is a member of the Council's Operating Committee.
Carole has always
placed a high value on education, a field in which she earned a masters
degree. "Education has always been my primary interest and career
choice. I enjoyed teaching in the New York City School system before I
became a mother and Girl Scout leader. Steven, my husband of 41 years,
has always been supportive of my Girl Scout endeavors and proud of my
accomplishments."
Carole and Steven
both enjoy spending free time with family, and especially their 2-year-old
grandson.
"My vision
for our Council is one in which the community will realize that Girl Scouting
is so much more than cookies and camping. I look forward to the time that
when people hear `Girl Scouts' they think of an organization where girls
can find fun and |
friendship
in addition to developing self-esteem, values, and leadership skills.
I love to wear my Girl Scout uniform in public because people want to
stop and talk. This is a perfect time for me to tell them about the variety
of opportunities we offer and the benefits girls receive by participating.
I know that my fellow board members are likewise doing their best to enhance
the image of Girl Scouting in the community."
