What should you do with Girl Scout T-shirts?
Make a T-shirt quilt

Jennifer Worthy who is now a junior at Stephen F. Austin University, is still a registered Girl Scout. As a Girl Scout for 12 years, she attended many camps, participated in Cookie Sales, and served as a program aide at summer camp. The quilt serves as a remembrance of her Girl Scout days.

T-shirt quilt instructions
Prewash all T-shirts. Don't use fabric softener on them.

Materials
100 percent cotton fabric for the sashing and backing; fusible interfacing needs to be non-woven, glued only on one side, and should not be paper-backed; and clear plastic template cut to the desired size of T-shirt panels.

Directions
Place the clear plastic template on the T-shirt over the panel and make a rough cut around the template. Cut a piece of fusible interfacing the same size.

Turn the T-shirt over so the panel is facing the table and place the interfacing on the T-shirt.

Next, place a damp cloth over the interfacing and iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Place the T-shirt on a rotary mat and trim to desired size of T-shirt block adding 1/2-inch for seam allowances. q Repeat the above steps for all T-shirts, then lay out design.

The sashing that goes in between the T-shirt blocks measures 12 1/2" x 2". The cornerstones are two-inch squares. Attach these to the quilt.

Save the date for 2004 Resident Camp Open House
by Nicole McInnes

Is your daughter ready for a week of awesome summer camp fun? Do you have questions about meals, daily activities, and what exactly do campers do at camp? Do you want to see the GSSJC facilities that will accommodate your daughter during her stay? If you have been asking yourself questions like this, then Resident Camp Open House Day may be for you!

Open House will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 7. Parents, future and returning campers, and their families are invited to tour Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council's three resident camps: Camp Agnes Arnold, Camp Casa Mare, and Camp Misty Meadows. Guests will be able to view the camp facilities, living accommodations, and ask questions to the camp staff.

Each camp offers varied and exciting sessions every summer, so come and see which camp is best suited for your child. A parent or guardian must accompany each child who attends Open House. No registration is necessary, but there will be a sign in sheet on the day. Girls do not need to be placed at camp to attend Open House. Visitors may picnic in designated areas of the camp on this date only. Remember to dress casual, wear comfortable closed-toe shoes (at Camp Agnes Arnold and Camp Misty Meadows only) and bring weather appropriate clothing. PLEASE LEAVE ALL PETS AT HOME.

Those who cannot attend the day or have further questions should contact Program Manager Nicole McInnes at 713-292-0353, or nmcinnes@sjgs.org.

The resident camp catalog will be mailed mid-January 2004 to girls, and camping information will be available on the Council's Web site, www.gssjc.org. Remember to sign up early online or by completing the registration form in the catalog!
