Design a badge for Petro Possibilities

A new badge program called Petro Possibilities has been developed by the Houston Chapter of Society of Women Engineers. The Society of Women Engineers invites Girl Scouts from across the Council to design the badge. Send your designs (round format) to: GSSJC, Melinda Gaskill, 3110 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77098 by November 15.

This badge will teach Junior Girl Scouts about:

  • the different parts of the oil industry (drilling and producing oil, refining oil to fuels and lubricants, making useful chemicals out of oil);
  • careers and activities of workers in the oil industry; and
  • key concerns of oil industry (environment, safety, economics).

Tour the Girl Scout Center

A trained docent will guide troops through the history of GSSJC as they tour the center at 3110 Southwest Freeway.

Visits include viewing Girl Scout memorabilia in the Goodykoontz Library and Memorabilia Room and taking part in a related activity, discussing the Council's history collection, touring the Girl Scout Center, and viewing the Golden Eaglet video. Juniors will complete a portion of Girl Scouting in the USA Badge.

Event Planning for Girls required for some Gold Award projects

Senior Girl Scouts who want to plan an event for their Gold Award project must attend the Program Department's Event Planning for Girls training before beginning their project.

Girls may attend this training 9 to 12 months prior to the start of their projects, but not as first year Seniors.

Girls may take the training before or after they submit their Gold Award application. It is important that girls do not start on their Gold Award project until they have taken the Event Planning for Girls training and sent a copy of the training strip to the Council Gold Award Advisory Committee.

Girls register individually for this training using a Program Registration Form. The completed registration form, fee, F-204, and F-185 are due one month prior to the date of the training.
